Severe Weather By The Numbers

It was a busy June in the KELOLAND Live Doppler Storm Center.  South Dakota recorded two hundred fifty-seven severe weather reports.  They include tornadoes, hail larger an one inch in diameter and wind gusts over fifty-six miles per hour.

Since 2010, South Dakota has averaged one hundred eighty-seven.  July hasn't been as busy, but we've also been a lot drier.

But don't let your guard down, since 2010 July has averaged twelve more severe weather reports than June with one hundred ninety-nine.  In August the number of reports goes down by about fifty with one hundred fifty-two.  Keep in mind, these are just averages and the reports will vary from year to year.

Severe weather will have to be monitored for the rest of the month as temperature extremes are looking common for this July.
