The sunshine hanging around the past few days isn't going anywhere.
December starts dry and the lack of snowfall could spur some all-time record warmth. If Sioux Falls can make it to 63 on Monday, it will tie the record high for the month. For perspective, the average high this time of year is only 33.
Other areas of KELOLAND have been milder later into the month. Aberdeen is normally one of our coldest cities, but it reached 69 degrees on December 6, 1939. While this record looks out of reach for now, one mark seems realistic this weekend. Sunday's record high is 54, just two degrees above our forecast. We'll close in on the number with the right wind speed.
Pierre could also see records fall this weekend. The capitol city was actually ahead of schedule for picking up an inch of snow earlier this month, making the pattern change even more staggering.
Seventies in KELOLAND are almost unheard as we approach the winter season. But, Rapid City has reached 70 the week before Christmas.
