For those who received heavy rain over the past week, the sunshine and dry conditions are a welcome change. But there are areas that haven't received a single drop of rain this month. Here's a look at some of the numbers in KELOLAND.
Several areas have already received more rain than last month, including Chamberlain. Most of that moisture came on August 5 and August 6. Last weekend's three-inch downpour in Milbank has that area close to two and a half inches above last month. Winner and Lead are also well above, both coming in at more than an inch. From there the numbers dwindle, but they are still above for places such as Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Pierre and Aberdeen.
Then there's the other side. Cities that have not received as much as last month include Huron, which is three and a quarter inches below, thanks to a three-inch rain on July 12. The list also includes Yankton, Marshall (which is still waiting for a drop), Sisseton and Watertown.
So a lot of areas took just a week and a half in August to catch more rain than what fell in July. The seven-day forecast shows we'll have chances to add to those totals.
