Mild Weekend Weather For Outdoor Events

sioux falls, sd

With so many activities going on this weekend, the weather shouldn't add any stress to your decisions.  Saturday will be the cooler of the two days as Canadian air finishes moving in.  There will be a few breezy periods Sunday for many in the KELOLAND area as the warm south winds return.  Saturday's crisp morning will be the only hiccup.

There are several athletic events starting early on, including the Sioux Falls Half Marathon and the Custer State Park Road Race.  If you're heading to any of these, you'll want to dress for a chilly day, especially on the bike.

Much of downtown Sioux Falls will be blocked off Saturday.  Thousands will crowd the Sidewalk Arts Festival and hundreds of vendors will line Main and Dakota Avenues.  This weekend's very low humidities will speed up the paints drying and the mild breezes mean you'll hear the windchimes.

The winds should be gentle enough for the Dachshund races at GermanFest in Falls Park but we can't promise the smell of brats won't travel throughout downtown.

If you're looking to get the family out of town, the fall apple crop came in early.  With wind and isolated storms earlier in the week, windfall apples will litter the ground.  That makes it easier for the kids to pick.

Weather will cooperate for the Presidents' Bowl as local high schools square off.  You'll have trouble spotting any clouds in the sky and temperatures will be in the 70s.

And speaking of football, the pros suit up this weekend to start the NFL season.  Both the Vikings and Broncos play at home.  While the purple-and-gold play in a dome, tailgating should be mild with highs will be near 80.

Denver will be warmer with temperatures nearing 90 on the blacktop.  Both commutes should remain dry.
