Wessington Springs, SD
A Wessington Springs couple was enjoying a simple, summer evening chore of mowing the lawn when the tornado sirens in the small South Dakota community sounded the alarm.
"We got in the car and we went up to the courthouse, cause that's where the storm shelter is," Andrew Miller said. "We were up in the storm shelter, probably a good 45 minutes and we came back out and went to our house and it's completely gone."
All that was left of the couple's home were the blocks it was sitting on.
"We actually searched for quite awhile looking for remnants of our house and couldn't find it. We found it in the back of our neighbor's house half a block away and we found some of our stuff," Miller said.
Miller and Justine Hanson had just moved to Wessington Springs in April of the year. For now, they will wait for an insurance adjustor to inspect their property and tell them whether there will be enough to re-build their home. "We'll get past it. Things are replaceable. We're just glad that we're okay and that our dog is okay and we're still here."
