Vermillion, SD
The University of South Dakota football team is preparing for the biggest test in program history.
On Saturday night, the Coyotes will attempt to slow down one of college football's most prolific offenses - the University of Oregon. The Ducks averaged over 45 points per game last season, and have suffered only three losses in the last two years.
"It's a great opportunity to go to Autzen stadium, a great place to play, and play one of the top team in the United States. Play the number four ranked team in the nation. You got nothing to lose, go lay it all out on the line and become a better football team," USD head coach Joe Glenn said.
The Coyotes will turn to their returning quarterback and corps of running backs to spark the offense, while giving the defense a breather.
"Going into a game like this you want to be crisp on offense. Limit the turnover, limit the dumb penalties. I think we walk away from that game with minor or a few penalties, and being able to move the ball, it will be a huge confidence boost going into the next game," Coyotes quarterback Kevin Earl said.
Regardless of the outcome, Saturday's game will be a one-of-a-kind experience. It'll be the Coyotes' seventh game against a FBS team, but their first under the bright lights and on the big stage of Autzen.
"I don't really know what to expect right now, I've never stepped in a stadium quite like that before. I'm just looking to make a memory of it - it's something that I'm going to remember for the rest of my life. I'm going to go out there and play hard and leave nothing back," Earl said.
The Coyotes and third-ranked Ducks will kickoff Saturday night at 9:30. The game will be televised live on the PAC-12 Network. USD will be paid $525,000 to make the trip to Eugene, Oregon.
