Sioux Falls, SD
It's only fitting that the heart of basketball beats in the middle of the state. White River not only lays claim to the states most prolific scorer, but also 5 consecutive state title appearances taking home 3. This past weekend the Tigers captured their 15th Jones County Invite Title which Head Coach Eldon Marshall says prepares his kids for the state tournament.
"It's huge. You play three games in a row and it's tough to win any tournament that you play three games in a row. It's taxing on your guys and it's just like the state tournament and it helps you prepare for that," said coach Marshall.
The Tigers are lead by senior Wyatt Krogman. He has had the luxury of watching his older brothers Louie and Jake lead the purple and yellow. Now it's the future Black Hills State guards turn and he isn't wasting it.
"He does a great job of managing the game when we need it. When we need a score he'll do it, when we need a pass he'll pass, if we need a defensive stop he'll take a charge. He does whatever it takes to help the team and that's what you need from your point guard," exclaimed Marshall.
The Tigers sit at 9-1 on the season and with six seniors primed for another run to the top of class B. However the old ball coach knows his team has a long way to go before March.
Coach Marshall had this to say, "We've got a lot of work to do yet. We have a lot of improving to do, but I think our kids really love each other, they care for each other, and that keeps growing. I think our play shows that on the court, because we share the basketball, we help each other on defense, and they just love to play and love to play with each other."
