USD Ready For Home Game

Josh Vander Maten or Kevin Earl, many USD football fans and the Coyotes' opponent this Saturday are wondering which one will be under center once the game begins. Coach Joe Glenn isn't saying, but Earl did impress late in last week's loss to Western Illinois. Whoever gets the start will look to turn things around for the team as it finally makes its return to Vermillion.

"I don't have the time or the resources to check it out but how many teams in the United States do you think, did not play a home game in September?" Glenn said, "Maybe that many?"

USD was one of them, of course... Needless to say, Glenn and company are excited to be back at the DakotaDome this week. They'll need a solid Dakota Days crowd to show up for support as they host Missouri St., a team coming off a 37-10 conference victory over then 24th ranked Illinois St.

"Just played a great game. They've got their sail full of wind, they've got a conference game under their belt," Glenn said.

The Coyotes led the Bearcats 21-3 during their meeting last year before falling 27-24 on the road. While it was a loss, USD feels confident they can compete. However, there are plenty of things to work on.

"We know we can play with them. We've got to play better. We've got to find some rhythm offensively, get some points on the board. I think defensively we're doing some really good things. We've got to get our kicking game solidified. We missed another snap to our punter and that was a backbreaker," Glenn said.

How the Coyotes get that rhythm on offense will depend on who starts Saturday between Vander Maten and Earl. USD has been playing well defensively though and it will be that unit that Glenn hopes to rely on.

"It will be a great weekend. We're really looking forward to giving the best we can for South Dakota, get these alums a victory," Glenn said.

Kick off for this matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday at the DakotaDome.
