Pickett, Augustana Win In Walk-Off Fashion At Central Regional

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Sophomore Christina Pickett knocked in both Augustana runs in the Vikings first game of the NCAA Central Regional Tournament on Thursday, highlighted by a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh to secure the Vikings 2-1 win over Washburn.

Playing in its 25th regional tournament, No. 3 Augustana seed improves to 42-13, and advances to play the winner of the No. 2 seed and host Southern Arkansas versus No. 7 seed and defending national champion Minnesota State on Friday at 1 p.m.

The Icabods fall to 39-13, and play on Friday at 3:30 p.m. against the loser of the Southern Arkansas vs. Minnesota State game.

Washburn struck first in the third inning, as Samantha Stallbaumer opened the inning with a single, stole second, and then scored on an Emilee Baker RBI single that bounced off of Ashley Mickschl’s glove and into right field for a 1-0 Icabods lead.

Still 1-0 Washburn in the fourth, Shannon Petersen started the inning with a double to left, advanced to third on a Maggie Kadrlik fly-out to right and then scored on a Pickett sacrifice fly to right to tie the game at 1-1.

Knotted at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Petersen drew a lead-off walk to get things started. Samantha Eisenreich came in to pinch run for Petersen, and advanced to second on a Kadrlik groundout to third base, and then scored on a Pickett double to the gap in left center field to secure the win.

Mickschl earned the win in the circle to improve to 20-6 on the season. She gave up just the one run on six hits with no walks and one strikeout.

Six Vikings accounted for the eight Augie hits, with Kaylea Schorr getting three of them to lead the way. She also stole two bases on the day.

An Augustana win on Friday would send them to the regional championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m., while a loss would require the Vikings to win an elimination game on Friday at 6 p.m. to reach Saturday’s championship.
