Marsh, Byrum Headline 19th Annual Orion Classic

The Orion Classic annually features professional golfers from the PGA Champions Tour, who donate their time and talent to help raise funds for the kids at Children's Home Society.

The 19th annual Orion Classic is scheduled for early August, and will feature eight professional golfers, including unofficial ambassadors Graham Marsh and Onida native Tom Byrum.

"The worthiness of the cause is fairly easy to see.  Getting these guys to come is not quite as easy.  Kudos have to go out to Graham Marsh and now Tom Byrum for their help in recruiting their fellow pros.  We would struggle if we didn't have those guys.  The benefits of this event over the years is reliant upon those guys coming and donating their time," Senior PSA Player Coordinator Mark Amundson said.

This year's event will also feature a trio of new players, including Dan Forsman, Joey Sindelar, and Bill Glasson.  The Pro-Am Tournament tees-off at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4th, with a free Youth Clinic to follow at 1:00, featuring Marsh and Morris Hatalsky.

"Anytime that you can expose kids to the game of golf, it's wonderful.  And the game of golf teaches a lot of good lessons to kids.  They become better young adults and adults if they play the game of golf from some of the things that they learn," Amundson said.

Since its inception in 1996, the Orion Classic has raised nearly $4.5 million for the Children's Home Society, and its many programs for children and families.

"It's created by literally hundreds and thousands of people over the years that have participated and donated and been volunteers, and all kinds of things to achieve that success.  Certainly, one of my goals is to see our 20th year, next year, proceeds from that top the five-million dollar mark," Amundson said.

The "Evening For The Kids" is scheduled for Sunday, August 3rd, at the Ramkota Exhibit Hall.  If you'd like more information on gala tickets, raffle tickets, or the Orion Classic, we've attached a link to this story on the sports page at KELOLAND.com.
