Canaries Fall In Finale At Fargo-Moorhead

FARGO, ND - Unable to figure out Jake Laber of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (43-56), the Sioux Falls Canaries (33-67) were shutout in the final game of the 2014 regular season. With eight shutout innings, Laber (8-11) became the winningest pitcher in Fargo history with 46.

Matt Wickswat (3-9) was ineffective in his final start of the season, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks in just four innings of work.  After Frank Salerno scored on a Brandon Tripp RBI fielder's choice in the 1st to make it 1-0, Wickswat seemingly settled in by holding the RedHawks off the board in the next two frames.  That changed in the 4th when Fargo put across four runs to make it 5-0 and put the game out of reach given Laber's dominance. The bases were quickly loaded with CJ Retherford starting things off with a double, Tripp drawing a walk and Travis Higgs reaching on an infield single.  Michael Thompson then doubled in two runs and Zach Penprase and Salerno each drove in another with sacrifice flies.

The Canaries managed just four hits on the day off of Laber who finished his eight innings of work with seven strikeouts and just one walk.  The Canaries thank all their fans and sponsors for their loyal support during the 2014 season.
