Britton-Hecla saved its best for last in the class "9A" championship game. The Braves didn't grab their first lead until overtime, but managed to outlast previously undefeated Corsica-Stickney 44-36.
Britton-Hecla tied the game with less than six minutes to play on a 27-yard run that was fumbled, but eventually recovered by Skylar Macconnell for the touchdown.
The Braves got the ball first in overtime. Tayon Hawkins scored a 5-yard touchdown and added the 2-point conversion. Hawkins had 148 yards and three touchdowns on the game.
Corsica-Stickney appeared set to tie the game, but on 3rd-and-goal, Cordel Menning fumbled the football, which was recovered by Trevor Zuehlke at the 1-yard line to seal the victory. Menning had 119 yards and two touchdowns prior to the fumble.
Britton-Hecla wins its first championship as a co-op, finishing the season 11-1, while Corsica-Stickney also finished the year 11-1.
