Sioux Falls, SD
The American Outlaws were founded in Lincoln, NE back in 2007. Now seven years later there is a chapter in all 50 states, including the one growing in Sioux Falls.
"I believe that we will win," Fans chanting.
That was the battle cry of the American Outlaws at Gateway Lounge in Sioux Falls moments before Team U.S.A. took the pitch. The Sioux Falls chapter began six years ago with just over a dozen members. Now they have grown to well over 150 and their President, Clint Krahn, doesn't expect that number to slow down.
"It's huge. Every four years we get the World Cup and every year you see more people come out of the woodwork that you have never seen before, which is awesome. The key is we try to keep those people coming back in between those four years. A lot of the time people get bitten by the bug. Once they see one game they realize how pumped it is and how exciting it is, then they are back for every match. Even if it is a boring friendly on a Wednesday afternoon," Krahn said.
Tonight was everything but a boring friendly; it was the United States first game of the 2014 World Cup. Just moments after the ball dropped the American Outlaws anxiously awaited the first goal to show why they gather together.
"It's incredible. You have the Gold Cup, qualifying, and of course the World Cup," Gateway Manager Jackson Rentschler said.
Just then the Americans scored and the American Outlaws roared.
"That says it all right there. I have goose bumps," Rentschler exclaimed.
“U-S-A! U-S-A!” was chanted by ecstatic fans.
"It's absolutely insane. Everyone can say soccer is boring or they don't score enough, but when they do score it's worth the wait. As you just saw this place erupts. When you are actually at a game or at a bar watching a game, the atmosphere with everyone getting excited about it, there is nothing like it," Rentschler said.
Pierre and Rapid City are in the grassroots stages of developing chapters. If you'd like more information on how to join the Outlaws click this link American Outlaws Sioux Falls Chapter.
