The east side restaurant is hosting Hungry Hearts Day this Saturday. 25-percent of sales from 11-5 will go to the Sioux Falls School District's Angel Fund. That money gets distributed to students whose families struggle to keep their child's account balance out of the red. Chef Mark Severson says if students are listening to their stomachs, how are they hearing their teachers?
"How would you feel walking up to the lunch desk, ordering your food and the lunch lady tells you, 'I'm sorry, you don't have enough money to pay for this food.' You got all those kids around you. No kid should have to go through that," Severson said.
A student's family will receive several notifications if a lunch account
is low on funds or it is out of money. The Hungry Hearts Day
takes place this Saturday from 11-5 at the Barrel House. There will be inflatables, face painting and a hog roast.
