For some voters, casting the ballot is the easy part; waiting in line, that can be the headache. However, voters in Minnehaha County said the lines during this election were pretty good.
"It was wonderful, very easy," Carmen Schieffer said.
A polling place at 57th and Minnesota had lines out the door in the morning and had a steady stream of people all afternoon. Just a few hours after the polls opened, it had more than 1,200 people go through.
"No stress at all," Fred Vegge.
Margaret Lee certainly was not stressing out about all of the people in line, but the United Kingdom native was thinking about everyone who was not in line.
"I ran into a young person yesterday who said I'm not going to vote and it just blew me away. I think there's some things you have to value," Lee said.
Vegge readily agreed.
"I think it's everybody's responsibility to change things or keep them as they see fit," Vegge said.
Several voters like Vegge had their minds made up about who should represent them in South Dakota's House and in the White House. Other ballot issues took a bit more thought.
"Some of the amendments, I needed to read those through. I wasn't very familiar with those, except for the education ones which I'm very interested in, so I knew exactly what I was going to do with these," Schieffer said.
Making decisions like these brought a number of people out and their decisions will help direct America toward its future. That is why Lee said waiting in line is not a stressful part of the day, it is the fun part.
"This comes kind of the excitement part doing it on the day you can. A lot of people aren't able to and I understand that. I think it is important," Lee said.
