Voter Turnout Falls Short Of Gant's Prediction

pierre, sd

South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant acknowledged that voter turnout will fall well short of his 50-percent prediction.

Statewide turnout stood at about 16-percent late Tuesday night, before final results came in from Minnehaha and Pennington counties, the two largest in South Dakota.

Gant said the low turnout could have been the result of rainy weather or too many heavily-favored front runners may have discouraged people from voting.

Gant says he hopes more people will be energized to vote in the November general election.

Gant says he's pleased with the progress of vote centers across the state as well as the mobile app directing people to polling places.
