Shared-Parenting Bill To Be Introduced In SD Legislature

Parent's rights will take center stage in Pierre once again this year.

For the fourth year in a row, a shared-parenting bill will be introduced in the legislature. This year supporters believe they have reached a compromise between all parties.

The new bill will set up guidelines for judges to award equal custody of children during a custody dispute. Supporters say they hope this bill makes shared parenting more of a norm in South Dakota instead of an exception.

Similar bills have been proposed over the past three years but supporters have now joined with critics to write new legislation for this year.

We'll take a look at the bill and talk to a father about the proposal coming up later on KELOLAND News.
