Lincoln County Decides Its Future On Wind Energy Tuesday

Lincoln County, SD

Voters will finally have a say in the Lincoln County wind turbine debate come tomorrow.

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, registered voters can cast a ballot that will decide how far wind turbines need to be from homes.

Right now, under the current ordinance, a wind turbine needs to be about 1,300 feet, which is about four city blocks, away from any home.

Voters will get the chance to support or challenge that distance. A "NO" vote would keep the setbacks within that boundary. A "YES" vote tomorrow would be in favor of doubling that distance to more than 2,600 feet.

In Sunday's episode of Inside KELOLAND, both sides talked with Don Jorgensen.

There are close to 20 different polling places across Lincoln County based on a voter's precinct. For a sample ballot and polling places, visit Lincoln County's website.
