The feud between a lawmaker and leaders of the South Dakota House has escalated.
In a meeting of the House State Affairs Committee on Friday, Republican Rep. Stace Nelson of Fulton and House Republican Leader David Lust of Rapid City called each other liars.
The committee voted unanimously to kill a bill sponsored by Nelson that sought to put in law that the legislative staff cannot reveal information about research requests or bill drafting. Nelson
had accused Lust and other Republican leaders of asking staff last year to reveal such confidential information, but an investigation determined those charges to be unfounded.
Lust said it was unconscionable for Nelson to lie about other legislators and legislative staff. Nelson interrupted Lust to say it was Lust who was lying.
