Gant Expects 70 Percent Turnout In South Dakota

sioux falls, sd

Election officials had predicted lines.

Secretary of State Jason Gant expects seven out of 10 voters in the state to cast a ballot.  Gant was pleased with early turnout numbers and believes more people will head to the polls before they close at 7 p.m. in eastern South Dakota.

"Sometimes the Congressional races or state races are not as publicized as much so there may not be as much information out there.  But when it's a presidential year, everyone knows they want to get out there and have their voice heard on who the next president is going to be," Gant said.

In addition to some controversial ballot issues, South Dakota voters are also deciding who will represent the state in the U.S. House.
