SIOUX FALLS, SD
Temperatures Friday were at least twenty degrees above average in some spots, and around 40 degrees warmer than last year. Friday's conditions were more typical of July or August, NOT October 8.
Since 1950, Sioux Falls has set record high temperatures in October seventeen times. The winters that followed have a wide range of snow totals.
In 1980, Sioux Falls had two days with record highs in October, that winter we only had 10.8" of snow. But just three years later when Sioux Falls had a record high of 85 degrees on October 27, the following winter produced 75 inches!
But it's interesting to know the seventeen winters following the October record warmth since 1950, gave Sioux Falls an average of forty-one inches.
So just because it's a warm October doesn't mean the winter will be snow-free, or does it? I'll have your snow prediction in early November.
