Update: Staff, Volunteers Caring For Rescued Dogs

A day after 172 dogs were rescued from what officials are calling "deplorable conditions," The Second Chance Rescue Center reports the dogs are now in clean kennels with food and water.

Staff from the Humane Society of the United States and Second Chance along with volunteers are caring for the animals at a temporary shelter set up at the Turner County Fairgrounds.

Second Chance is accepting donations of Purina dog and puppy food, blankets and towels to assist with the veterinary care.  They are also accepting donations from businesses or organizations of meals for the dozens of volunteers running their temporary shelter and caring for the dogs.

If you would like to help, call 605.362.1722 or drop off donations at Second Chance Rescue Center or visit
