With Halloween just around the corner, thousands of pumpkins are being picked straight from the patch this weekend at the Pumpkin Festival at Country Apple Orchard.
More than 5,000 people are expected Sunday just south of Sioux Falls. Organizers say the large turnout is due in part to the cool weather this weekend.
“It kind of become a tradition with most families,” Nancy Olson of the Country Apple Orchard said. “The parents remember coming out here as kids. It's a fun time in the country in the fall.”
And while the festival ends Sunday, organizers say there are still pumpkins left to pick through the end of the month.
