Thousands of cans of food and other non-perishable items were turned into art Saturday as part of a competition benefiting Feeding South Dakota.
Six groups created sculptures Saturday out of boxes and cans of food for the AIGA South Dakota's can art competition. Some sculptures were created with a Christmas theme in mind, while others are opting for something more local, like this sculpture of the falls at Falls Park.
“I think what we're all really excited about is that we're helping people in the community but we are also being able to be creative which, as designers we love to do that. But we also have that higher cause of being able to help others in our community,” Michelle Holter said.
The sculptures are on display at The Empire Mall. Admission is free, but organizers would like patrons to donate cash or a can of food to help feed Sioux Falls' hungry.
