Supporters of a veterans nursing home in eastern South Dakota say the project is still alive even without a grant to help fund construction.
The federal grant would have paid for 65 percent of the cost for the Brandon facility. A revised proposal seeks a partnership with a private provider to would build the home and lease it to the state.
Alderwoman Barb Fish says she's confident about the ability to find investors. She says there many people who are "strong advocates for Brandon."
The proposed 50-bed facility would be the state's second nursing home for veterans. The other one is located in Hot Springs, in western South Dakota.
