Storms Rip Through Parts Of KELOLAND

People across KELOLAND are waking up to damage and flooding from strong storms that ripped through the area during the early morning hours.

Authorities say a storm with wind gusts estimated at 75 mph wreaked havoc in a Sioux Falls neighborhood, downing trees, power lines and damaging homes.

Fire rescue officials and police officers responded to the area about 3 a.m. Friday. They say there were no reported injuries, but four homes had significant damage and others moderate or light damage. At least one had a collapsed garage.

Sioux Falls Fire Battalion Chief Bill Curry says the American Red Cross is helping families in that city who can't return to their damaged homes.

Strong winds also blew down a garage in the White Lake area. In Vermillion, a UPS delivery truck was blown over.

Brandon is another community that was hit hard by the overnight storm.  Downed trees and other debris are left for residents and emergency crews to clean up.
