Updated 5:05 p.m.

Rain, sleet, ice and snow are bearing down on KELOLAND.  The moisture-packed storm is moving east and leaving a path of destruction.

The state's Emergency Operations Center is up and running in Pierre, and Governor Rounds has signed an emergency declaration.

The ice is so bad in the central part of the state, the lines for our KPLO Reliance tower snapped and the tower crumbled and fell to the ground. Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be affecting people who have cable or satellites.

Thousands of homes and businesses don't have power.  One of the most widespread outages is in the Sioux Falls area.

A fire at a power pole at 33rd Street and Spring Avenue in Sioux Falls knocked out power to thousands.  Xcel Energy was able to get electricity back on to all but 228 customers around 5:00 p.m.
