State Takes Over Highmore Case

A potential conflict of interest between the Hyde County prosecutor and the family of a Highmore woman who was shot in the head at her home Sunday has prompted the attorney general's office to take over the case.

State's Attorney Jennifer Lowrie is friends with the family of Pamela Huber, who's in critical condition in a Sioux Falls hospital.

Huber's husband, Ken, has been questioned about the shooting but is not under arrest. He is the former police chief in Highmore.

The wounded woman's son and sister have obtained a protection order since the shooting to keep Huber away from his wife and children.

A spokeswoman for the attorney general will not say if the county prosecutor has been questioned in the case, but Lowrie has hired Bill Janklow as her lawyer.

Janklow has declined to comment.
