State Plans Flood Preparation Meetings

sioux falls, sd

Community meetings are planned in three eastern South Dakota communities to discuss spring flooding potential and preparation.

The regional administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency is scheduled to join Gov. Dennis Daugaard at the meetings. All three will be Wednesday, starting at 7 a.m. in Sioux Falls and then moving to Brookings at noon and Watertown in the late afternoon.

Daugaard says record flooding is possible on stretches of the Big Sioux River between Watertown and Sioux Falls.

The governor said he issued an executive order Friday declaring a state of emergency. That allows town and counties to use state resources if needed.
