The state Board of Water and Natural Resources has awarded a $345,000 grant to help expand a facility in Sioux Falls that handles household hazardous wastes.
The grant covers half of the estimated cost of the project, which still must be approved by the city.
Landfill Superintendent Dave McElroy said the amount of material going through the facility has tripled since it began accepting computers, television sets and other electronics two years ago.
The facility takes paint, cleaners, used oil and other household wastes. It serves five counties and handled 83 tons of products in May.
