Saturday Boredom Busters

It's the last weekend before many schools begin classes, and the weather should cooperate with just about anything you have planned.

The Glacial Lakes Regional Chili Cookoff begins today at the Brown County Fairgrounds in Aberdeen.
Cooks compete to advance to the world chili cookoff. Cost is free, call (605) 229-4626 for more information. 

Plankinton's 4th annual Pheasant Fest begins this morning.
There's a demolition derby, a kiddie parade, a pheasant feed, and a street dance to follow.

Six- to 11-year-olds can learn about healthy eating today, at the Kids in the Kitchen event in Sioux Falls.
Taste new foods, study up on nutrition, and learn how to cook a few simple snacks.
It begins at noon at Hy-Vee on South Minnesota Avenue. 

The Ben Clare United Methodist Church is holding an ice cream social today, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The church is located just south of Valley Springs.
Bring the kids, as they'll be serving rain or shine. 

The national cat show begins today, at the Oaks Hotel in Sioux Falls.
Cats from all over the U-S and Canada will compete, including a costume judging contest at 1 p.m.
They'll take up a collection for Second Chance Rescue Center. 

And catch a breathtaking sky show tonight, at Palisades State Park near Garretson.
The Persied Shower Show and Star Spectacular begins at 9:30 p.m.
