The U.S. Postal Service says it will eliminate mail processing centers in the South Dakota city of Huron and the North Dakota cities of Devils Lake and Minot.
But the agency on Thursday disapproved studies to consolidate the Rapid City, S.D., and Grand Forks, N.D., processing centers.
The announcements came after five months of study as officials with the U.S. Postal Service look to cut spending across the nation.
The Postal Service earlier this month said its quarterly loss grew to $3.3 billion amid declining mail. Postal officials have said they need to cut $20 billion dollars by 2015 in order to stay profitable.
