Sioux Falls, SD
The ATM theft at a local bar and restaurant adds to a growing list of similar crimes in Sioux Falls. Police said suspects broke into Krav'n Bar and Grill just before 4 am on Thursday.
The machine alone is worth about $3,000, according to the owner. No word on how much cash was in the ATM, but officers found the empty machine a few blocks away from Krav'n.
Surveillance video shows sparks flying as two suspects try to withdraw more than just a few twenties.
"They actually had a grinder, because cause the ATM was bolted to the ground," owner Mark Fonder said.
It is hard to see much else in the video, but owner Fonder found the proof of the crime hours later when he got into work.
"They must've used a pry bar or a crow bar and pried the whole, the whole glass was here," Fonder said, pointing to the ground. He said the glass from the door was shattered. New door glass has already been installed.
The suspects dragged the ATM through the hole in the door. Suspects stole an ATM from Bigs Sports Bar eight days ago. In March, Deuces Casino was hit.
"Hopefully, it's the same people and they do get caught," Fonder said.
Fonder said Krav'n has 26 cameras, and he has already taken the steps to add more to prevent this from happening again.
"More motion detectors and also just more surveillance cams outside," Fonder said.
With one ATM to spare, Fonder is working with investigators to track down the thieves who made off with the cash.
"I was surprised it would happen here," Fonder said.
