A man is in critical condition at Rapid City Regional Hospital tonight after a weekend shooting on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
It happened late Saturday night when a reservation police officer responded to a home for a fight. Police aren't identifying the victim, but say reservation police officer responded to a house in Pine Ridge for an altercation.
When he arrived a man was swinging a two-by-four aggressively at the police vehicle. Once the officer was at a safe distance he got out of his car, and approached the man. He say's the man then came at him with the board, and the officer fired his gun wounding the man in the man in the chest.
The victim had surgery this morning. The incident's being investigated by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Police Department, the BIA, and the FBI. The officer is on required administrative leave pending the investigation.
