Pierre School Board members are expected to approve about $1 million in budget cuts that will include reductions in services and staff. The board will meet at 3:45 p.m. to finalize the cuts.
Superintendent Kelly Glodt ordered administrators to start looking for cuts last fall when it appeared that the state aid to education would be reduced. Board President Randy Vance says the process has been difficult, but decisions have been made carefully and with great thought. Vance says one recommendation that will be implemented is a salary freeze for all district employees.
Many South Dakota school districts are expected to ask their voters for an opt-out from the state's property tax freeze. Vance says that was not considered in Pierre.
