After losing to Lincoln in the GDC golf tournament last week the O'Gorman Knights took to the course at Elmwood with a little extra edge.
"It was a lot of motivation. Everyone decided that we wanted to turn it on and we were able to give them a run for their money," O'Gorman Junior Max Donohue said.
"You got that (GDC Title) as one of your goals for the season and we lost that so we wanted to come back today, and try to get this one and we knew that we were going to have to play our best golf to do it," O'Gorman Head Coach Rod Garrison said.
The 2-time defending state champion Knights aren't used to losing, but now they know what to expect when the state tournament gets underway in Mitchell next week.
"When you go into the state tournament now you've got 3 teams possibly even four teams that are right up there. It's a two day run and you've just got to play good golf for two days," Garrison said.
Max Donohue has led the charge for the Knights once again this season.
The junior, who has received interest from Big 12 and SEC schools so far, points to depth as the key to their success.
"It's a lot of fun especially at practice everyday having that talent around you and motivating you to be better and motivating every other guy on the team to be better too...it's really fun," Donohue said.
Donohue and the rest of the Knights hope that fun continues next week with a 3rd straight state title, but they know it won't be easy.
"They're there with the depth and they're there with the experience but you still have to play golf for two days," Garrison said.
