The debate for the proposed events center has a new home on television. The Build It Now campaign began running television ads this week selling the new facility to voters, and the small business focus is mean to spur voters into action on November 8
"We think it's important to get the word out. We think it's important for people to get up off the couch and get down to their polling place and vote," Sports Authority Director Mike Sullivan, who is also a Build It Now Co-Chair, said.
Sullivan wants the new ads to bring voters out in record numbers. It features Sioux Falls businesswoman Nicki Ellerbroek, who is also a campaign co-chair.
"A lot of people watch TV and so it's a very effective way to get our message out to people," campaign field office director Tony Reiss said.
Reiss said his office is working on other things too. A look outside shows you the campaign's signs, and Reiss says workers are also going door-to-door.
"It's really all about highlighting that great quality of life we're all going to receive after construction is complete," Reiss said.
"People say it's not gonna effect them. Why should they care? Well, it is gonna affect you in some way, shape, or form. This new facility will affect you," Sullivan said. "We feel comfortable with where we are now and what we've had but obviously it's still a big choice."
Build it Now will not say how much they paid for the television spot or if more are coming. They do plan to run the ads until the November election.
