Sioux Falls, SD
A new law requiring South Dakota children to attend kindergarten before first grade takes effect this year.
The South Dakota Legislature changed the law in 2006 with a delayed start. Beginning July 1, the law will read: "All children
shall attend kindergarten prior to age seven."
Whether they do so at age 5 or 6 is up to the parents.
The bill also sets the minimum number of hours for kindergarten programs at 437.5.
