Another step in the Events Center project will be made Monday afternoon.
Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether is scheduled to make a presentation that will include a site recommendation to the city council.
Last Monday, council members heard results of studies done by consultants about where an Events Center should be built in Sioux Falls. The consultants found that building an Events Center near the current Arena in Sioux Falls would be best for the city. Based on the city's site evaluation criteria, the Arena ranks higher than Cherapa Place, which was chosen as a potential downtown location.
Huether's presentation will take place during the council's 4 p.m. informational meeting. [Watch it on KELOLAND.com. Look for the 'Live: Council Hears Site Recommendation,' story.]
Later at its 7 p.m. meeting, the city council is expected to vote on spending thousand of dollars on a new study concerning naming rights for the proposed Events Center.
The mayor wants to hire a firm to see how much money businesses would be willing to pay. The firm is expected to look at not only the name on the outside of the facility, but the names on the inside as well.
The group will also consider looking at naming rights for the Sioux Falls Convention Center, Washington Pavilion and the Great Plains Zoo.
