Herseth Sandlin Votes For Economic Stimulus Plan

South Dakota's lone House member, Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, voted for the $819 billion economic stimulus legislation that passed 244-188 Wednesday on a near-party line vote.

In a statement, Herseth Sandlin, a Democrat, said the nation's economic woes will only get worse the longer that decisive action is delayed.  She says the measure will mean a real boost for South Dakota by creating jobs, cutting taxes and investing in infrastructure.

Herseth Sandlin said South Dakota would be eligible for about $236 million in total infrastructure investment.  She said it also would creates a tax credit of up to $500 per worker and $1,000 per family for 2009 and 2010.  The Senate is expected to take up its version of the package next week.
