Officials say heavy loads caused a bridge to collapse in eastern South Dakota.
The Huron Plainsman reports that the small bridge spanning Foster Creek northwest of Lake Byron was in poor condition and had been scheduled for replacement this year. But the work was delayed because bids came in too high.
Beadle County officials say the wood and steel bridge collapsed Friday morning, not long after a school bus had gone over it.
The state had called for bids for the bridge work this year but they came in more than $100,000 over the estimate. Construction isn't expected to begin until next spring.
