Former Teller Sentenced In False Bank Robbery

A former Webster bank teller who said two masked men robbed her at gunpoint will spend 16 months in a federal prison. Forty-two year-old Janet Lynch was sentenced Monday in Aberdeen federal court. Last August, Lynch had said two American Indian men had robbed her while she was alone in the bank. In March, she plead guilty to theft, embezzlement and misapplication by a bank employee, admitting she took a total of $58,000 from the bank. Lynch got a shorter sentence by admitting she took the money. Federal Judge Charles Kornmann says it's clear that Lynch has accepted responsibility for the crime. Kornmann said implicating Indians in the crime has stirred already unsteady race relations in the state. With the help of friends, Lynch has paid full restitution to the bank, with interest.
