The flood at Lake Thompson is damaging a state recreation area.
The lake has spilled over the main road into the park covering 200 yards of pavement in three different places. Park officials would like to dump rocks along the pavement to stop the waves, but that would damage a three-mile stretch of township road.
"We're in kind of a catch 22 with weight restrictions. There's not a lot we can do except pray the water does go down and Mother Nature stops the fury a little bit," recreation area manager John Christensen said.
That's not the only problem in Kingsbury County. The Oldham grade, which connects Highway 25 to the town of Oldham, is in danger of going under.
"With the lake being as high as it is, we're getting tremendous waves with a north wind that goes across the road and eats away at the grade itself and is washing the road out," Kingsbury Co. Highway Superintendent Dave Sorenson said.
