It's a highly traveled area in Sioux Falls for both motorists and pedestrians. Now, Sycamore Avenue in eastern Sioux Falls is the site of a fatal accident involving a motorcycle and a jeep.
It happened just after 6:00tonight near Belmont and Sycamore, just south of 26th street. Crews have been on the scene for several hours and are now wrapping up their investigation.
Yellow tape marks the scene of this deadly accident.
Sergeant Steve Van't Hul with the Sioux FallsPolice Department says,"There was a Suzuki motorcycle that was northbound, on Sycamore, traveling at what witnesses are telling us, was a high rate of speed."
That's when investigators say this jeep pulled out into the intersection.
Van't Hul says, "There was a jeep, that was at stop sign here at Sycamore and Belmont facing east, pulled out into the intersection, the two collided in the intersection."
Investigators say the driver of the motorcylce was traveling with a group of other motorcyclists when the accident happened. And witnesses at the scene say he wasn't wearing a helmet.
He says, "As a result of the collision, the individual on the motorcycle was deceased at the scene here."
Van't Hul says the investigation into what happened is just beginning.
"What we do from here is we got a reconstructionist out here. We will try to reconstruct the crash, try to get some speeds. We'll definitely visit with witnesses again."
