Economic Outlook Improving

sioux falls, sd

City finance officials told KELOLAND News Wednesday that the economic outlook is continually improving and they expect sales tax levels to be back at the levels they were in 2008, prior to a sharp drop in 2009.

The police department says it has already compensated for those lower revenues with no raise last year, and that during negotiations both the city and the police union agreed the following:

“Sioux Falls has the money to cover the expense of employee cost of living allowance increases but the priorities of where the money should be spent was the major topic of discussion and disagreement.”

KELOLAND News spoke with three union members Wednesday, who all declined an on-camera interview. They did say the two-year pay freeze is in line with what other vital city service providers have seen.

Union members also said they hope a continual increase in sales tax revenues will mean higher pay increases beyond the 20 to 13 contract.
