Domestic Violence In KELOLAND

Two weeks after the beating, 19-year-old Jennifer Kopecky is still hospitalized, unconscious. Tonight her boyfriend, Dusty Kusser, the man accused of attacking her, faces new charges. KELOLAND's Don Jorgensen is working on that story, but first he has an update on a different boyfriend accused of making a death threat. That boyfriend is Gary Javers, who's facing new charges tonight. We first talked with him in the summer of 1999, when his girlfriend Pam Halverson was murdered. She disappeared from the couple's home. Days later her body was found in the backseat of the couple's car. No one was ever charged with Halverson's murder. Today, Javers was arrested for threatening his new live-in girlfriend. At 8 o'clock last night, a neighbor in Javers' apartment building called police to report an argument. Lt. Doug Barthel says, "Apparently in that exchange of words, got angry with her, then threatened to kill her." The 36-year old Javers was arrested for simple assault. Dusty Kusser is also facing new charges. Two weeks ago, the 21-year old Mitchell man was arrested for allegedly hitting his girlfriend on the head in her Sioux Falls apartment. Tonight, 19-year old Jennifer Kopecky is still unconscious and Kusser is now charged with attempted murder. Kusser had posted a $50,000 cash bond, so a new warrant has been issued for his arrest.
