A sentencing hearing for 49-year-old penitentiary inmate Eric Robert is scheduled to resume Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
Robert changed his plea to guilty and a judge will now decide whether he should die for killing South Dakota Correctional Officer Ron Johnson during a failed escape attempt in April. Robert killed Johnson by hitting him with a 2' metal pipe and putting shrink wrap around his face.
On Monday, Attorney General Marty Jackley showed video of Robert walking across the prison yard wearing Johnson's uniform and pushing a cart carrying fellow inmate, Rodney Berget.
The prosecution called ten witnesses to the stand Monday. At Robert's request, his attorney did not issue an objection and only asked one witness one question during his cross examination.
