We still don't know what it will look like or where it will be, but the City is one step closer to deciding who will design the new Events Center in Sioux Falls.
The finalists all have impressive resumes.
The City of Sioux Falls received ten proposals to submit design plans a new events center. One of the three finalists has left a familiar footprint about 90 minutes south of Sioux Falls. Ellerbe Becket
of Minneapolis designed the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Part of that project is the Gateway Arena, a multi-purpose venue that seats 6,500 for a hockey game or up to 10,000 people for concerts. Ellerbe Becket has designed a lengthy list of sports arena's across the country including FedEx Field in Memphis. Sink Combs Dethlefs
in Denver has designed the multi-purpose FargoDome, along with several other sports venues across the country, including the Independence Event Center and Community Ice Arena in Missouri.
The only local design firm on the short list is TSP
. With offices in Sioux Falls and Rapid City, the company designed the McGovern Public Library in Mitchell. This firm also designed a 61,000 square-foot Community Health Center in Sioux City and the University Center in Sioux Falls.
All three design firms are hoping to add the Sioux Falls Events Center to their impressive resumes. The evaluation team which narrowed the list of prospective design firms, will interview each of the finalists early next month.
There is no word yet on when a final selection will be announced.
