The No. 21 University of Sioux Falls (7-1, 7-1 NSIC, 3-1 NSIC South) Cougars are ranked eighth in the initial NCAA Division II Football Super Region Three rankings, through games of Saturday, October 20.
The top six teams from each of the four “Super Regions” following the final week of the regular season will advance to the NCAA Division II football playoffs.
USF is one of four NSIC schools to be ranked in the top 10 in the region. Minnesota State, Mankato (8-0) is ranked first in Super Region Three, followed by the Reddies of Henderson State (8-0) and Harding (6-1). Emporia State is fourth (8-0) and was trailed by Northwest Missouri State (7-1) in fifth and Minnesota-Duluth (7-1) in sixth. The top-10 was rounded out by Winona State (seventh), USF (eighth) the Missouri Western State Griffons (ninth) and Ouachita Baptist (tenth).
The Cougars have little room for error in either the NSIC or the NCAA’s power-packed Super Region 3, which accounted for 11 of the top 25 teams in the coaches’ poll that was also released on Monday.
USF, ranked #21 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association top-25 poll will host Upper Iowa on Saturday with kickoff scheduled for noon.
