BHP Planning New Wyoming-To-SD Line

rapid city, sd

Black Hills Power Corp. is planning a new transmission line from a Wyoming substation to South Dakota, to help meet the growing demand for power in the Rapid City region.
Public meetings are planned Monday in Newcastle, Wyoming, and Tuesday in Rapid City.

The utility is weighing three possible routes for the 135-mile line that would begin about 50 miles south of Gillette, Wyoming, head east to Osage, Wyoming, then into Rapid City. The utility says a cost estimate is not yet available.

Black Hills Power still needs to get approval from South Dakota and Wyoming regulators and the U.S. Forest Service. Construction would start in 2013.
